Missing devices after installation
Hi guys,

Firstly i need to point out that this problem occurs with xp pro as well.

I just bought a new 320gb hd to replace my old 80gb and i also have a 200gb slave in my pc.

My old hd didnt have seperate partitions but ive split my new 1 into 3 (i wanted to have xp, vista and storage). However when i set up 3 partitions and installed xp (firstly) my slave hd wasnt been recognised although it shows in device manager. So i uninstalled and installed vista in its place but the same thing has happened.

Ive also noticed that vista is only showing 1 of my dvd-roms as well.

Can anyone help please?

do you have the drives jumprered or cabled incorrectly? Sounds like you forgot to change a jumper when moving it to slave->master or vice versa. Jumper Free?

Maybe you accidentally loosened a cable on a dvd drive while doing that? Re-seat the cables and plugs.

320gb master, 200gb slave both IDE on IDE0, cdroms on IDE1, same jumper configuration for 2 years.

In disc management it says the 200gb drive is "dynamic drive" and calls it foreign.

Hope that helps

If you are managing multiple partitions on one HDD, you might want to look into a 3rd party software like Partition Magic.

Also, you might want to check in your BIOS and see if it's recognizing the devices as being connected before the OS even starts.
