Exclamation Windows won't start
OK, last night my computer crashed. I have no recovery disk and it won't even start in safe mode. I tried all the different things that you could do from the DOS program, and nothing works. The computer is just a year old so Vista was on the computer when I got it. I did not install anything or change anything. My daughter was on AIM and she clicked on a link her friend sent her...couple minutes later...BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH! No matter what I do I cannot get windows to start at all..in when starting safe mode it get so far and stops.

Anyone have any ideas what happened or what I can do?

There is no DOS in Vista, so what exactly did you use?

If you have not backed up your drive, you may need to restore to factory settings. Do you know what key combination starts recovery?

I was in the screen that you get by hitting f3 then f8 to get to the menu where you can start in safe mode as well as other options. I tried most of them as well as F11 to restore, but it won't go into safe mode or do anything else. Windows starts loading but then just stops, and I get the blank screen...no cursor for the mouse or anything.

Doesn't sound good. You could try booting from:

XP Recovery Console CD Image with autofmt.exe for formatting
Recovery Console ISO Image (original)

If one of those boots, at least you could look around on the drive to see what is happening with your files and partitions. But it may be time for the repair shop.
