Unhappy Solved: Error loading operating system
I installed vista64 ultimate and during initial setup i made 3 partitions, 1 for vista, 1 for xp and 1 for saving data. The vista install went well and i installed my programs etc no problem. I then put in my xp disc and re-booted and in setup selected the second partition, after formatting and installing setup files pc re-booted but gave an "error no operating system".

I took out the disc and re-started but now i get the same error loading vista. Ive tried booting from vista disc and doing the repair but its not working, it does a number of checks which all say successful but still wont boot.

Can anyone help me please?

Being you just installed Vista and probably(?) have no critical data on the Vista partition yet, I'd opt to start over. This time install XP first and then Vista. Installing XP after a Vista install is much more complicated.

There is also plenty of info on a the subject on this forum:

Yeah you have to install the Oldest OS first to get the newer one to dual boot them.

There is a work-around that allows for a dual boot of XP after has been installed. However it is much easier with less chance of failure if XP is installed first. There are many on line tutorials that explain the procedure.

I know that's why I stressed the "easy way".
