Xerces Panic Error
I have gotten this message when I am trying to load a peachtree first accounting 05 program. The complete message is "Could not load a transcoding server" I am using a vista OS and to the best of my recollection I last did an update of windows before this started. Have done a search on google and found a couple of suggestions, but would like a little more clarification on the problem before I follow the advice there. I don't feel comfortable modifying registry without adequate instructions.

solution to problem
I'm sure there a few out there who are unware of this. I describes the message and the problem, however, it is a compatiblity problem. But Vista has the ability to adapt its OS to the level needed to operate the software.
The solution was very simple when I found out what the problem was and for you experienced problem solvers it will look like child's play, but for some of us less fortunate it was a real a-ha for me. I was at a different forum and someone suggested that compatibility might be the problem, but did not tell me how to fix it. The solution was simple. Right Click on the program icon and go to compatibility. You can set the level you want that software to run on. Took me 5 minutes to figure it out after searcing for the answer for 3 days.

Xerces Panic Error solutions for Accpacc
I had a few users with Xerces Panic Error and could not understand why this was happening. The users had Sage Accpac and were using it to fill invoices. The error occurred only when they attempted to print within the program any invoice they had completed.

The solution was permission based. The stated users did not have or had permissions but lost power users status on the server. Once this was given to stated users, the error went away.

This is not the fix, but it is knowledge. I suggest this is most likley a permissions issue within software or with a .DLL.

Thanks for the reply. I have gotten this message since I tried to load Peachtree 08 on the system. I had PT 05,but did encounter the compatibility problem again. I decided to upgrade to the PT08 and tried load the08 but it would not install In my attempt to straiten this out, I then tried to uninstall PT05. It would not uninstall. I got this xerces panic error many times at various times. Sometimes when I rebooted, sometimes when I changed programs, and sometimes when I would just change to a different screen. I currently have some other issues that I am unable to resolve also. I am trying to download the vista sp1 and install. It won't let me install it either. So I am thinking these two things are tied together.
I have MS Office Pro on the computer and it has removed all the programs from that suite and will not let me reinstall. Everything else seems to run OK so I am not in too big a hurry to do a vista re-intstall. I want to see if I can get this service pack to take care of the problems. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I suggest that you check event viewer and find exactly which .dll or file is causing the Xerces error. Then go from there. As I stated above I believe it's a permissions issue or one were perhaps another program has installed a different version of the .dll file on your computer causing the conflict.

xerces.dll is a Shared Library for Xerces-C Version 1.4.0 This process is still being reviewed. If you have some information about it feel free to send us an email at pl[at]uniblue[dot]net

Here is a link to the .dll downloads on the web.
