Question Multiple Power-On required to boot-Grrrrrr!
My system runs AWESOME when it is running. The problem is that when I put it on standby for more than a few hours, when I come back, standby fails to resume windows. I then have to power on over and over, each time getting just a whisper closer to actually restarting. I know I am getting close when I can repeatedly hit F10 and the boot order pops up. When it does, I select the hard drive. It then goes almost all the way and then i have to do it one last time. Then it displays the "Resuming Windows" screen with the little progress bar, the desktop pops up, and I'm back in business.
I repeat, when it is up and running, it is AWESOME.
Thanks for reading and any help offered!
I have the following;
E-Machines T5062 (ReBranded Gateway)
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+
160GB Sata2 8MB Cache
2GB Kingston DDR2 RAM
Geforce 8600GTS Video
430 Watt power supply
DVD-RW
VIRUS and MALWARE/SPYWARE Free

Windows Vista works fine for me even with SP1 RC.

Yes, Vista must be working for someone. Just not for firemcd they way they would like.

So to help them out, there were problems early on with some video cards and Vista experiencing this exact symptom. You might check with the graphics card manufacturer to see if there any updates available.

This problem was occuring right out of the box, before I put in the 8600GTS graphics card.
Drivers are current and up to date........

Now that we know the problem occurred right out the box, have you contacted the manufacturer.

It has nothing to do with drivers. SP1 for Vista should fix resume problems.

It's not performance that is the problem. Not an issue of it being faster. Right now it doesn't work unless they power off. Way more than a performance issue at this point.

Here's an example and how it can be solved. Even an update from MS that is way before SP1.

Is this a multi user machine with more than one account using "Switch user" to get from account to another?

Here's some more information that may help:

"Many standby and hibernate problems can be traced to graphics boards and sound cards. A simple driver update might get hibernation working again"

Go into the power settings and change the hibernate/resume settings. And check to see if there is a BIOS fix. The supposed "Vista problems" are usually BIOS problems.

Change them from what, to what? It would be great to get the details.
