Hello! I'm new here. Nice to meet you all. I hope I will not have cause to visit here again after this.
I recently went nuts trying to fix a strange situation with the previous setup of my computer (WinXP Pro on an IDE, and Win Vista Ultimate on a SATA) where in the XP Pro configuration the
"Winlogon.exe" file continually chewed up more and more memory until my computer would chug to a halt. I never really figured out what the problem was (but established that spy/mal-ware and/or viruses were not the culprits) so I just opted to format everything (including the Vista Ult install on the SATA drive, to be safe) and start fresh with only Windows Vista Ultimate. I just finished installing Windows Vista Ultimate and just just finished installing the latest updates and just just just finished registering for the TSG forums.
My memory is bad, so I've actually forgotten

how I set it up this way, but I was able to access the Ultimate Vista drive from within WinXP Pro and vica versa (the WinXP PRo drive from within Ultimate Vista). I know I installed SATA and IDE RAID drivers during the Preinstall phase when I first setup my WinXP Pro so that's how I was able to see the other drive from within WinXP Pro later on. Incidentally installing the IDE RAID drivers was also how I could make my computer recognize other IDE-attached devices on separate channels without having them share the same ribbon cable. Right now I could make my IDE a slave to my IDE-CDROM's master, and Vista could see it that way, but that is unsatisfactory. I want to activate the IDE 2 & 3 channels from within Vista.
What I can' t remember is how I did the reverse so I could access the WinXP drive from within Windows Vista Ultimate. This other drive no longer has anything on it, so I just want to use it as storage. During the preinstall phase for Vista Ultimate, the computer could not find my XP-only GIGABYTE GA-81915P Duo Pro VIA VT6410 IDE RAID drivers (from
here) from either a USB Floppy Disk Drive or several different USB Sticks.
I couldn't make it see the drivers (even after unchecking the 'Hide drivers not compatible with this computer' box), so I just moved on and installed Windows Vista.
Now that everything is setup, I really want to be able to use my old XP-Pro, now empty, drive from within Vista Ultimate. Can someone please give some guidance on how what steps to take from here? Thank you.
Not related, but I also could not find the option to upload a custom avatar in the my profile options. Sorry for being a newb.
