If the problem is with the router it doesn't matter how many times you install Vista fresh.

There is a link on that page which will test it (or you could physicaly bypass it).

Have you done either?

I have Vista on a LAN and rarely reboot it. No problems. And I'm a nut about testing my 10 mb 55 buck a month cable subscription.

do you watch movies on internet ? if so after 1 hr do you see ur download speed goes down?. Speedtest.netw ill show it. It changes drastically when you watch movies on internet , other wise you can't tell the difference.

i disconnected router , still same problem.

As Dave said, the rest of us seem to be fine. It wouls appear Vista is not the culprit, as if it were, others would lose con to, and obviously do not. So far theres 2 of us watching at least. ISP seems a more logical solution, or possibly the streaming site running out of bandwidth.

Absolutely -- I am an avid fan of Netflix IW and have watched both their movies and ABC's HD movies without issue. The performance is actually better on my Vista machine than on XP which stutters on the ABC site even though the bandwidth download speed is the same for both. Different NIC I guess.

Unfortunately I have IE 8 Beta1 on my Vista machine right now and cannot use Netflix IW during this beta test.

Results
I just finished watching 2 movies in a row @ 3hrs 22 min.... while watching movies, I also downloaded a few large files on rapidshare.... and the results:

I monitored my PC for bandwith and download issues... tested it every 45 min or so.... no lag or loss of download speed... still d/l at 4.89 on a 5mb plan.... test performed using PCPITSTOP and CNET.... PC connected directly to NEGEAR Router... running Vista 32bit Home Prem...

I think this problem has to do with ISP, Router, or connection.... NOT VISTA.

I am 100% sure it is vista. Netstat -s - shows my ipv4 active open connection. It normally disconnects it when i reach 6000 open connection and throws error in error event saying tcp/ip connection reached max. I normally open 20 browsers windows as average when i browse.

And it mainly decay when i watch streaming movies

Vista router test - the article below exactly depicts my problem but my router wbr-1310 dlink passed the test.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932134
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/results.mspx
Everything supported and passed.

20 browser windows?

If you are watching a movie why would you do that?

You should not be maxing out your connections like that -- it can be a symptom of a worm or other malware infection. Are you running a P2P file sharing app as well?

... at your own risk, you can try editing the registry manually without installing anything extraneous.

"It is vista design and no one bothered about it , i do not know why. People more worried about security than this problem. Based on microsoft non chalant response , it seems like they intend to slow down network speed by design."

It doesn't bother me because I'm not having your problem on my systems. It seems that this is an isolated problem existing on just your system. Perhaps you should update your motherboard driver set or reinstall Vista clean. In any case, the first part of your troubleshooting is to eliminate what it isn't. And clearly a "sinister plot by an evil corporation to spoil your internet experience" really doesn't make much sense and isn't supported by the evidence.

And yep, after a decade of removing various forms of malware from clients machines I for one appreciate a little security in my operating system. But if you don't, just install Windows 98 and have a great time.

Ceck those test times... it goes down in lumps in short time...if you keep opening or closing.... it is still same speed as running same movie stream..more or less..

after reboot...

After 5 times open this stream movie ...and close internet explorer...to simulate this problem...faster way..
http://www.breaktimetv.com/2008/02/q...it-s01e05.html

another 10 more times...

another 10 more times..

It goes down....within 1 -2 hr from full bandwidth to 0 and get disconnected....

After going through various forums , tried all the suggested solution..no improvement.
Anyone solved it completely?.

1. Disabled MCSS.
2. Removed it from registry from audiosrv key.
3. removed the differential compression ( unchecked it in windows features dialog)
4. Have no virus spy software.
5. Ipv6 is unchecked... only using ipv4.
6. disable other lan card.
7. it is new install.

It acts like a memory leak but it is a bandwidth leak and end up my internet completely disconnected.

I reboot and everything normal until i start to stream videos. Always upload limit remain same until it is disconnected.

Anyone have "correct " solution..i see someone declare it is fixed by disabling mcss...BS!!. problem is still there.

Anyone found a permanent solution except rebooting every time i watch movies for hr or two?.

Note: It only happens when i watch movies online...it might also happen if i listen audio (i don't know about this one as i don't listen music that much!).

Configuration:

Penryn 8400
4GB ram
3 SATA harddisk
Marvel libertas wireless card
p5 k motherboard
64 bit vista
very fast ..no spyware ...no virus...
Internet speed 100% (6900-7000kbps) when pc started...
After 20 min streaming...it comes to 50% of bandwidth to around 2500kbps...then 1500kbps...then 500 kbps...then connection disconnected...
Very bad design by microsoft...it is funny that no one has find this out... yes i saw people found similiar thing around last august or something but thie problem is fixed by disabling mcss i think...my problem still exists....

Thanks.
Just to jump right on in here (Older thread but?), Its NOT a streaming problem, its NOT an ISP problem, Its NOT a Vista Problem, and last, it IS a Internet Problem!
Read up on Datamining FIRST! It allows various companies to WATCH what you are doing. Mainly with Torrents, But can happen to ANY streaming protocols. They capture your stream's, and replay them later. So as with demand loads go up (More and more attach the stream) you see a decrease in overall bandwidth (Untill you drop your connection, or reboot).

Please people, Stay current with news. This has been an ongoing battle since the (P)act was passed. There is even a larger problem we face now, It seems the Telco's (Telephone Companies) are allowing to copy ALL DATA in and out of the USA. That means they attach your streams as well!

So much for t1 thru t3's huh? (They were lightning fast at first).

i donot think so.

I just try to download through IDM (internet download manager) some files using rapishare.com like 20+ connection (20 files) .. everything was going full speed of total 900Kbytes/sec speed.

when all get to around 60-80% suddenly my internet connection got disconnected. Had to reboot.

I used to download thru idm before but never tested with so many connection. Basically if you use few connection , you may not see the problem.

When you heavily use browsers ( for me atleast 10-20 browser window opens all the time) , you will see vista's internet connection get disconnected. Not just disconnected , it disables the network card itself. So i had to reboot and everything normal.
