Need a free anti-spyware app
I've had Vista Premium Home for couple of months.
I've installed AVG antivirus (free) and ZoneAlarm firewall (free) simply because I had these on my XP machine and I'm familiar with them.

What I need is a good free anti-spy app' for Vista to complete my "security suite"

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance.

I use Adaware 2007, it has been good to me. Get it here:

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-200...html?tag=lst-1

Hint: when it opens for the first time after installation just click CANCEL on the screen that asks for a license number.

Like all anti-spyware frogram you must keep it up to date!

Thanks PCrepairguy, I'd forgotten all about Adaware. I had it on XP. Now I think about it, I also had seek and destroy because I heard it could catch things Adaware might miss. Is this still the case or will Adaware do the job sufficiently

You can use superantispyware and/or spybot search and destroy.

As far as I can tell with Adaware 2007 you don't need Spybot Search and Destroy as it does not seem to find anything after you scan with Adaware....but someone else may have experienced something different....

Just worked on someones computer last night. After running Ad-Aware, Spybot found things the other program didn't. In fact I ran about 5 programs total, each finding something the others did not. Just depends on what you are infected with. Can't remember one program finding everything.

AVG is not a good AV option from personal experience. I'd go with Avast! for your AV choice: http://www.avast.com

No need for ZoneAlarm as Windows Vista firewall is perfectly capable and features inbound and outbound filtering.

Windows Vista features Windows Defender and User Access Control (UAC). No real need for anti-spyware programs.

If you are infected, and need an additional one just to help clean the computer, Counter Spy provides a fully functional one for two weeks.

Here's a review of Defender, which shows how you should have more than just that:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13...e/article.html
"It detected less than 50 percent of the 46,352 inactive adware samples we threw at it--hardly admirable"

http://www.2-spyware.com/review-windows-defender.html
"Windows Defender does not provide reliable protection against widely spread trojans, worms and other malicious software. In other words, the program cleans most infections, but often cannot eliminate the cause,"
