Is Vista a Problem or is it me ?
i just purchased a new computer..Dell inspiron 530..w/Vista Haing problems with default mail..windows insist on being my default. I have found no way to select yahoo mail as default.

Had problem with opening yahoo mail links. called dell for support. the tech accessed my system through the remote program. Sounds Scary...well he fixed my problem after about 30 min

has anyone experienced problems with the vista system ? i hope this is not going to be an on going thing.

Allowing dell to access my system remotely worked for me but it sure seems like I opened myself up to be victimized. Not that I maintain a system with my banking acccount and other personal information available,,but just think in the Good Ole USA that the Gov could do it with not even my permission or me knowing...

This is a GREAT SITE glad I found it.....Many thanks

You can disable/uninstall the remote system access and install it when needed.

If you know the fix that Dell executed, please share it here. Others may stumble on to this thread.

I tried it in Jan 07 and wasn't very satisfied. I became like many of the anti-Vista people that you see (even on these forums). I decided to just switch in Dec 07 after hearing so many positive comments from more knowledgeable people. I haven't regretted it at all. In fact, I am now happy to go to OpenAL instead of relying upon EAX.

I've had it less than a week, and so far, so awesome. Not a lick of trouble, other than when I tried loading TF2 for the first time. Turned out to be the firewall blocking it from the internet. I allowed it, and all was well again. I saw all of the 'issues Vista was having' on these boards, and elsewhere, and kinda got scared. Then I looked at the threads for Win2k Pro, which I used since a week after it came out, and realized that all OSes have issues. I guess I'm just lucky. I've never had a single issue, other than a couple of wrong settings on any computer I've built. The Vista install came off without a hitch, and hasn't given me any problems. I ran 2k Pro since 1999, on 4 different computers, and never had any problem with any of them.

Trying to set Yahoo as the default email program to use was neither Vista's or your fault. In order for you to use Yahoo as the default you need a "hook" or small program on your desktop or laptop that functions as the gobetween so you can both select Yahoo as the default and have it go to Yahoo mail when called upon. Before all the changes to Yahoo mail there was something called Yahoo! Mailbox that handled all that. I don't know what the process is now, similar or not. Whatever the tech did to make that work I don't think it was from smitfraudfix.

What I've seen is:

1. Turn off UAC
2. Download & install latest Yahoo Messenger
3. Click on "Yahoo Mail" icon on desktop.
4. Answer yes to Yahoo as default
5. (Optional) Turn UAC back on
