Talking windows toolbar
I have several icons to the right in the notification area of the task bar that are stacked horizontally

My quick-start icons to the left, next to the start button, in the toolbar, are missing

When I right-click on the toolbar and select toolbars, and then select "quick launch," the quick launch icons appear on the left side, but all my icons in the notification area suddenly stack vertically instead of horizontally and the entire toolbar increases in depth.

I cannot get these icons in the notification are to stack horizontally like they used to.

I can't even drag anything into the quick start area.

I've tried everything I can think of and am at wit's end

Right click the task bar, unlock it. Now, you should see some dots in columns, move your cursor over the dots until it turns to double arrow. Now left click and drag the dots to the left and see what happens.

DaveA:
thanks for the prompt reply to my toolbar problem.
I took your suggestions, found the dots (there are three across, stacked vertically around 6 high),
left-clicked on them and tried to move them left and right. No luck! Nothing moves!

Dave:
I did a screen print and saved it into a Word document and tried to send it as an attachment here. But I got an error message wrong format while uploading. I tried to paste it directly into this message with no luck. I guess I want to know how to save a screen shot into one of the allowable formats here. Got a suggestion?

Save it as a image and then post the image.

OK, Dave, I think I have it figured out. I managed to same screen print as gif. Am sending one without the tool bar quick launch launch and the horizontal icons in the right corner. Then I have another after I do a quick launch to show what happens to those icons in the right corner. I got a message after uploading that one is attached, but I see no indication in this message. I am sending it anyway.

Dave:
Here's the other screen print showing what happens after the quick launch is activated. Look at the icons on the lower right-hand side

OK, Now you want to be on the lower row of dots, and drag to the right when the cursor turns to a double arrow.

Your latest message: "OK, Now you want to be on the lower row of dots,
and drag to the right when the cursor turns to a
double arrow."
I've tried this several times, now and before, and nothing happens, nothing moves.

jtisch,
Your taskbar is too big when quicklaunch is activated which gives it room to stack.

Try right clicking the Taskbar (after activating Quicklaunch, of course), and take the tick off 'Lock the Taskbar'. Hover your cursor over the top edge of the taskbar, and when you get the double ended arrow, left click and drag downwards until it's normal size. Don't forget to lock the taskbar again when you're finished.

Smile Toolbar problems
DaveA:
Thanks for all your efforts.

I spent hours and hours on this problem and finally figured it out.

I dragged the toolbar to normal size until the notification icons in the right-hand corner were properly aligned horizontally.

I locked the toolbar, then did the quick launch, and it worked. The vertical stacking of the notification area icons was caused by an unlocked toolbar.

Here's a new screen shot

That is real strange as I keep my task bar unlocked all the time and do not have this issue.
