Starting Excel from filename Vista has recently started mis-behaving when I attempt to open an Excel file by clicking on its name in Windows Explorer. The following error message appears "Windows cannot find filename.xls. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".
Strangely enough, Excel starts, but many of the menu options are greyed out as unavailable. If I start Excel from its icon, it works OK and is able to find and open the file as normal with all the usual menu options available. The problem applies generally to all Excel files, it is not specific to any particular file.
The problem started after I attempted unsuccessfully to run a calculation tool programmed in Excel that worked successfully on earlier versions of Windows (and Excel for that matter).
I am running Vista Home Premium 32-bit on a Dell Dimension E521 with 2GB RAM. I am using Excel 2003 SP3.
Grateful for any help. |
