That post belongs in here: "http://forums.techguy.org/26-random-discussion/", if you have problems with wacky.banana. criticize him there. this part of the forum is for tech help.

bob has over 20,000 posts and is well respected here. as a result we can establish the fact he knows what hes talking about. so why on earth do you have him on your ignore list?

well if your not happy with his attitude in this thread then please go away, stop complaining, and leave those who are happy with his attitude to get on with the task of helping.

jbm1991,

Very perceptive. I haven't always said Vista was perfect, maybe even said it had problems. Not spreading FUD as he likes to accuse people of. Just spreading facts. But it can't be something so foolish as that, could it?

Being on an ignore list does not prevent you from reading anyones posts. You just don't get notified when they are made. Hope that clears some more up.

i agree with you there. i use vista, and i really quite like it now its sorted itself out a bit, but it is by no means perfect. im curious to know what youve done thats annoyed him so much, and what this "very good reason" is.

It is because I've dared to mention problems that Vista has. As you see from this thread, that is not liked by that person.

You should see some of the other posts as well. One he actually told the person having the problem to stop spreading FUD (not like Elmer Fudd ;-). And this was from a person with a Vista problem. They didn't particularly like his response and told him so, several times. Too bad for this forum.

Darth,

Thanks for the warning. Update for others who have been kind enough to help; have manged to find a few drivers off the net that seem to be keeping Vista quiet. Not all sorted out yet though, including the issue that first brought me here in the first place, ie force installation of drivers.

Will keep you informed.

Meanwhile many thanks to those who have offered good words of advice so far.

well i don't recommend it but you CAN insert the drivers in manually using the boot up option "safe mode with command prompt" copy the files into the appropriate folder and make the registry changes to allow Windows to "register and apply the files". try it at your own risk i've had to do it a few times at work but only with Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition. Vista 64 is a pain in the rear end to run 32 bit apps on so i stay away from it.

Post count in itself means nothing. It's all about quality and not quantity. I have over 33,000 posts at IGN but that doesn't mean I am better, smarter or more respected than anyone there. That's called humility.

Bob is an antagonizer and slanderer, at least towards me. So I'm better off not wasting my time by sorting through a single one of his posts. You all can go ahead and bow down to him if you want to though.

jbm1991,

Here was just another good example that may help you answer your question. Nothing was said at all like that (just read the posts in this thread) yet those types of unsubstantiated, negative personal remarks get made. It is unfortunate for the technical aspects of this forum, but that's the way it goes.

"Richard, please read my post again. It has absolutely nothing to do with "my lack of preparation". I'm trying to force install a driver, which i should be able to."

The Vista compat tool would have found all your issues with software, at least. You might want to "downgrade" again.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh.

thats also because its IGN, and not a tech support website...

we are not all bowing down to him... all i was stating was that he has made 20,000 posts and if his advice was that bad surely someone would have pestered/complained enough to have him stopped. also i didnt say to worship him, or that he was better than anyone else, i simply said we can assume he knows what hes talking about. i didnt say he was god of tech support or anything like that.

It is always hard to know how to accurately respond to so much misinformation. The best solution would be if it would just stop being made. But that does not seem to be happening. In fact it is now getting worse.

Time will tell if there will actually be any improvement or the goal of making more personal attacks is more important. Perhaps an admin will help try and put a stop to it. As others have noted on this thread, it isn't very accurate or appropriate.

--

Hey good news. It looks like that personal attack post got edited and removed after I posted this and replace with a PM message. Better to at least hide them and take those off-line. I have it as an e-mail but hopefully things are now actually getting better !!! It was a doozy as far as how off track it was.

Looks like with that last personal attack post being removed, hopefully it has.

Also looks like wacky.banana found some Vista drivers and were going to try turning off UAC to see if that helped solve the problem with the rest.

Been looking around for a policy setting that could be changed like with previous versions to allow unsigned drivers to be installed but don't see the same thing being there with Vista.

Did find several 3rd party apps to do this but wouldn't want to blindly recommend them.
