Bootrec says I have no Windows installations
I'm getting the 'winload missing or corrupt' message when I boot. When I go into the command prompt from the Vista install disk and run 'bootrec /scanos' it reports zero Windows installations. I can can boot into safe mode. How can I have zero windows installations if I can boot into safe mode?

Were any changes made before this started?

Can you boot from the Vista DVD and try a Repair install?

I was copying a file from a NAS disk to a SD card reader and it froze. After killing that I rebooted the computer and this problem arose.

Vista Repair is the first thing I tried and it did not find anything. After several hours of trying different things it did boot again. I don't think I actually did anything that worked though.

Now it takes about 6 minutes to boot up which is much longer than before.

Since you can at least boot, you might consider making image of the computer to another hard drive.

This way, should it fail entirely and not boot, you can restore that image.
