Having trouble with IE on a Vista PC
Good evening,

Out the blue, when I clicked on any link in IE 7.0, it would go to a page not displayed. The only way I can successfully navigate to a link is I have to right click and open it in a different tab. Has anyone experienced this.

Thanks,

Shannon

Under Tools / Internet Options / Tabs Settings button, how are items checked.

In tabbed browsing, my only unchecked items are:
Open only the first home page...
Open home page for new tabs instead of a blank page

In Open links from other programs:
Checked is A new tab in the current window

Only in IE
I switched to Opera because it was very annoying to get the "webpage cannot be found". Doesn't matter what link on the page I click.

Thanks for checking it out for me.

This is still very annoying. Its happening on any and every page I visit. I need to access sites for school, that do not support other browsers, and I can't do it. Some articles suggest changing the security settings (most of the pages I need for school are secure), that doesn't work for me. Could this have been the result of an update?

Not much info from MS but see if this applies:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933006

This is the usual fix for IE 6, but I'm not sure that IE 7 is running the same dll's.

Question? Could this be why also when I visit sites that require flash player, it tells me I dont have the latest version even when I do? And it doesn't show me what its suppose to, no matter how many times I download the player? Mind you, this is ONLY IE, I'm not having this problem with Firefox or Opera.

Did you try any of the fixes in the links I previously posted?
Other options:
In IE, go to Tools - Internet Options and click the 'Default' tabs in 'Privacy' and 'Advanced'.
You may also want to check any security suites settings (Norton, McAfee, etc) that may be blocking certain content such as java.

Other issues listed here:

Thanks so much, Ill try that link. I've tried everything you posted, except the fix for IE6. cant uninstall IE& or reinstall it, that has been taken away. All the security updates are in place. Im starting to believe this happened after an update. I will try disabling my internet security to see if that is the problem as well. As I stated before, the other 2 browsers are fine. I even reset my IE7 to default.

Thanks again for your help.

Installed Sp1 for vista, it went back to being super wacky, I reset the defaults again. It happens way more than it did at first.

I did get an error message about 501 error in opposed to a 505 and something not being supported. Otherwise, its really bad when Im on www.msn.com, I can't log in on ebay in IE now, when im on tiger direct, i can hit some links, some come back with errors.

I have another vista pc and im not having that problem. Unfortunately we cannot uninstall IE7 and reinstall it., Any suggestions as to where I should go next?

Trendmicro. I even disabled it to see if it was blocking me. Someone suggested I reset the default stuff in IE before, and that helped with my homepage. After installing the Sp1, it went back to any link I clicked (besides the one that gave me the 501) would give me the 404 message.

Yet another update. I woke this morning to find out that there was an update for Microsoft. I wanna turn that feature off. but thats another thread. Anywho, I click on an IE page, and stuff is screwed up again. If I click any link I get page cannot be displayed message. The only way to view the page is to right click and open in a new tab or window. Anyone? Ive since heard (thru someone on a tech support call to Dell) that Trend micro and Dell really dont get along. My IE heading says IE provided by Dell, could this be a source of my problems. I tried disabling my internet security and im still having the problems.

No thats not the source . Try the following :

Optimize the browser ( Follow steps from http://computers-quickfixes.blogspot.com/)

and re-register the dll files from varun.notlong.com.

and run antispyware if needed.
