Have you tried this.
Look under Options - "security" tab.
See if you have unticked the item "Block images---etc.

Obviously you have installed Acrobat reader and a *.doc reader?
It could mean a lengthy exchange but a quick answer, which may be not what you want, is to download and install windows live mail. It is a superior program (free) and the set up is as simple as windows mail.

Norton's may be blocking the attachment, you need to check that out.

You may have the same problem, if it is Norton', by using Outlook.

Get rid of Norton's and use any of the FREE AV and firewalls. I use AVST and ZoneAlarm of one system and a paid MS OneCare on the other.
Both machines seem be well protected.

DaveA: don't bash other people's choices of software. This is a help forum. Norton is perfectly adequate for the security of the average home PC.

Davedead: Keep Norton, or if it annoys you, uninstall it and download ZoneAlarm, AVG and Ad-Aware SE Personal and SpyBot. Never failed for me.

P.S.: Depending on your version of Norton, the uninstall may come up with a variety of aggravating errors. So make sure you sort out the uninstall before downloading anything else, as Norton is incompatible with most free security programs.

attachments not responding
I have had no problems for a while now but for no apparent reason it has developed the same problem again. I have uninstalled nortons and closed windows defender... But to no avail.... can you suggest anything else to do?
