My Vista disk won't run.
I'm currently running Windows XP Professional sp3 32-bit and I am trying to upgrade with my Vista Home Premium 64-bit. When I try to run the disk a Windows Setup window comes up saying "Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media." When I tried booting from the disk it looked like a vista background came up, but nothing else. I would like to resolve this problem with out having to wipe my hard drive and do a clean install. I posted my DxDiag.txt

When you insert the disk to upgrade, the problem is caused by you having installed SP3. The Vista disk does not recognize SP3 and tells you that you can't upgrade.

The problem when you boot from the disk is more puzzling.

I also recieved the same message when i had sp2 so i don't think sp3 is the main reason.

So you are trying to install a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit system?

I had a similar problem, when I would start up, I would get an option to choose the OS to boot , I atempted to reinstall and ended up not being able to boot either, from the HD or CD......I actually had to revert and install ME as a starting point! Now I am back to square one, attmept the vista upgrade or stick with xp???

The best way to install an upgrade, is to do a "clean install".

Have you you gone through the "Upgrade Advisor"?

Yeah, I ran the vista advisor and it said I was ready to install vista. So is there no way to upgrade to a 64-bit from a 32-bit OS?

Only if your hardware is a 64bit machine.

Is your processor an AMD Athlon 64, Core 2 Duo, or (can't remember the others)?

In your first post, you said it was a 32bit.

Here's how to tell which one you're operating:
