Solved: Vista CDRW problem
Hi guyz,

fairly new to vista and although i have seen this problem on a few other forums, so far i have seen no answers.

I have a dvd+/- rw drive in my desktop machine running vista pro.

Although i have no problem reading dvd's, writing dvds and writing cds. when it comes to reading cd-roms, the pc just doesnt want to do it.
Vista keeps asking me to lable and format the cd.

although i know the disks have info on them, put them in my old xp machine adn they work fine.
This even happens if ive just written a cdr, vista wont read it, just asks me to label and format the cd.

any ideas guyz?

Tried re-installing drivers but to no avail.
I don't think it has ever worked. Always been using dvds, not really put a cd into the drive until recently to try and run a few install that i wrote to cd earlier.

Hi again,

 Click start > run > and type “regedit” , click ok to open the registry

 Click the plus to the left of “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”

 A dropdown menu will appear , in here click the plus beside “SYSTEM”

 Another dropdown menu and click the plus beside “CurrentControlSet”

 Another dropdown menu and click the plus beside “Control”

 Another dropdown menu and click the plus beside “Class”

 Now search for the folder called “4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318” left click on the folder itself and on the right hand side of the screen you will see a number of options, the two you are looking for are named “Upperfilters” and “Lowerfilters” right click on these values and uninstall both

ok since you asked althougha dumb question, your optical drive is definately a dvd-rw?
second thing you mite want to check is that its a dual layer writer.
so that its able to burn both plus and minus dvds

otherwise you might be using the wrong dvds to burn to.

if however you have checked all this and are still having problems. get back to me
