Vid card with Vista D:
I have a XFX Nvidia Geforce 8500GT 512 MB and I cant seem to install the drivers for it on my vista. I can do it fine with xp, but not vista.
I tried the nvidia website, the cd, and the xfx website. Nothing works.
Help?

Can you please explain what is happening when you try the install.

Did you remove the current drivers first?

All of the drivers I get come with this message from the installation screen:

Wait, should I upgrade to service pack 1?

The error code is the one you recieve if you try and update with XP drivers instead of Vistas. Check you are definitely trying to use Vista drivers not XP- outside of that, cant think of anything that woul dcause the problem.

None of these work. D:

What should I do? Should I attempt to remove the xp drivers? If so, where are they normally?

You may want to use Driver Cleaner Pro to clean up the mess......

Even though it doesn't say Vista is supported, it works. Be sure to read the directions for use ! Make sure you have no NVidia drivers listed in your add/remove. If you do, uninstall them.

I have more success installing drivers, by unpacking them to a folder directly off the root drive, then using driver update through the device manager. Just point it to the root folder.
