Question Everything shrank
When I started my computer today, all of my desktop icons had shrank to a smaller size as did my desktop wallpaper. I have a widescreen monitor and the desktop picture seems to be a fullscreen version now with a black border around it. Some of the websites I regularly visit look different as well. For example on my MySpace page, information used to cover most of the screen but now it is more in the middle. I haven't messed with any settings so I don't think it is something I did to cause this. I just got the internet yesterday and everything was fine. The desktop picture covered the entire screen and everything was easy to read. But for some reason when I started it today, I ran into problems.

I don't know what might have caused the problem. To try to fix it have you 'reset' or 'recalibrated' or whatever the monitor? Have you tried changing the screen resolution?

Yeah, there was another resolution that looked like it was for a widescreen monitor but when I tried it everything ended up being gigantic. lol

Are you using a flat screen or CRT monitor? Try adjusting your monitor settings using the buttons on the monitor itself. It sounds very plausible that someone may have been messing with the monitor's settings and shrank the picture down. If that doesn't work...have you installed any new hardware recently? You said in your post that you just got the internet, so I am going to assume that you installed a modem? What software/hardware have you added to your computer recently...you could be having a driver issue. If this is the case, and the above suggestions don't work, try doing a system restore to see if that fixes the issue. If a system restore does not work, then I would reccoemend reinstalling the video driver for your computer. What kind of computer do you have? If it's a Dell, their website had a really cool feature where you can go and find the specific drivers you need for your specific machine using your service tag. The driver you want will be a video drive for your video card...it might be something like intel graphics media accelerator driver for windows vista. One thing I would reccomend doing now that I think about it before doing anything else is right clicking on my computer, choosing properties, clicking on the hardware tab, and going to device manager. In device manager, you will see an icon with the words 'display adapters'. If you click the plus sign to the left of that, it will expand that tree of adapters. Look and see if there is anything with a yellow icon showing either a question mark or an exclamation point. If there is, post back and tell us what has that icon on it so we can direct you further on what driver's to get. Good luck.

I have a flat screen monitor and it is a Dell. There is nothing in "display adapters" that has a yellow icon next to it. There is actually only one thing listed and is says "Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family". I didn't install anything before this happened. Last night it still looked fine when I shut it down. It just looked different when I started it back up today. I thought that somehow it just went to a full screen setting instead the widescreen it was on but the desktop icons are still in the same place, they are just smaller and appear in the "black" portion around the now square desktop picture.

Right click the desktop, select Personalize, then goto the Desktop background, then scroll down and make sure that the left most icon is selected. This will stretch your picture to cover the complete desk top. OK you self out.

Now right click the desktop, and select View, and then medium Icons and see if that makes any difference.
