Question HELP! with icons
I tried to download a game my daughter bought for me (Simcity Societies) and I must have hit a wrong key. I have Vista. Now all my icons turned into a little e for internet explorer. I can't go to anything on my computer. I tried to go to system restore but it just goes to rstrui.exe . When I hit run it keeps coming back to the same thing. I don't know how to fix this. I tried to uninstall the game and it tells me I have to get permission from the administrator which is me. No one else uses my computer. Can someone help me?

Ok turn off your PC and when you restart your PC hit F8 until the screen comes up to restore to last known good configuration
It should take a couple of mins to do so and hopefully that should solve it

If not then you could go to
START>RUN>rstrui.exe
hit enter and restore from a previous point, before you installed the software

rstrui.exe is the .exe of the recovery console

This should work
If the settings are still messed up you could then try restoring your system

Restart pc>F8>repair/restore system

Then restore your PC to the way it was when you bought it

Good luck

Question help with e icons
I still can't use my computer functions with out it trying to go onto the internet. I tried all the intructions but it still tried to go online and find everything. The only choice that I think that I have left is to reformat. I really didn't want to do that unless someone could tell me another way to get to system restore.

Did you try to boot into Safe Mode, as Placehold asked you to do?

If you still have the Installation CD then it might be an idea to Boot from the CD and enter the repair console and Repair the system, shouldnt delete anything but instead replace and repair any broken files

Worth a go

Ikester30, Shut down your machine to reboot. When you see the "splash screen" (manufacturer logo) begin to steadily tap the F8 key which is located at the top of your keyboard. You will see several choices for safe mode, select "SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT" Log on using the Administrator account. Your screen will seem abnormally large, this is normal. To launch System Restore type the following command at the command prompt.

C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe

can't change icons
Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Do I go ahead and format the computer? I didn't want to do that but I'm at my wits end.

Enable hidden Administrator account: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/, and try to run System Restore from there.
