Solved: Vista to Vista transfer
Hi all,

I have a customer who had a laptop with Vista loaded and it was working for a couple of years, then this past week his laptop mainboard went out and he ordered another laptop with Vista installed. He was able to hookup the other hard drive with a usb adapter and the new laptop is able to see it, but he says that he can't get to his account folders. I'm thinking he's talking about the user account folder with his My Docs and desktop.

I'm not to familiar with Vista, so I'm not sure how to go about to "take ownership" of his old account folders, since I think it was passworded also. I know how to do it with XP Pro but I'm not sure how to go about doing it for Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, it seems like once we hooked up the old hard drive, Vista asked us if we wanted to change the Security Settings on the hard drive. We said Yes, and it took a very long time like a couple of hours, but once it ended we were able to access the private folders. The only other thing we had to do was change the view so that we could see "Hidden Folders and Files" then that way we were able to get to his Microsoft Mail messages transfered over. So it looks like as long as your admin, it'll let you take control of another drive with full rights..

Hope this helps someone...

Thanks!
