Audio Problems: Line-In issues, Bizarre.
Hi all,

I am trying to run my XBox through my PC, so the sound comes out of my speakers. Now, to do this I have a male mini-jack cable that is connected to my computer's line-in jack. This is definitely working, and yet I can hear no sound from my speakers. If I right-click the sound icon in the system tray and choose "Recording Devices", I can see that my line-in is set to default and I can see that it's receiving sound too. What's more, I can load sound recorder, hit record, and then play back the sounds that the XBox has made.

So please, could somebody tell me if there's a way I can just have sound on all the time?

I've uninstalled/reinstalled drivers for an hour or so, I'm sure that's not the issue. I've also scoured the internet for a good hour now, and can't seem to find a solution to this problem.

My sound is all on-board, the drivers say: "SigmaTel High Definiton Audio Codec 6.10.0.5511". I'd be quite comfortable editing the registry if there's a way of fixing this little issue that way.

Hopefully someone here can help!

Cheers,
James

I think some sound cards, maybe built in ones also, only have sound in or out not both at the same time but anyway what a long winded way of getting sound from your xbox.
If they did it would be an easy way of recording streamed sound,ie plug the line out into the line in.That would be nice but I don't think it works that way.

It's not really that unusual a way of getting sound out. The Microsoft VGA cable comes with a couple of RCA jacks and an adapter that converts them into a mini-jack, intended for the line-in slot.

Also, I'm not sure I agree with your explanation. Surely if I can record sound, I can play it at the same time? I can have my speakers playing music whilst recording from the xbox, at least...

I'm not sure what you want to do.
Do you want to record sound from xbox to pc and hear sound simultaneously from the pc line out?
My pc has mic and headphone jacks on front panel, try headphone if available.
As I posted earlier some sound cards, most, are not 2 way or duplex or something meaning 2 way at the same time.
someone tell me if I'm wrong.
While writing this I've plugged headphones and mic,the mic level bar moves ok but no sound out.
