Solved: Vista hangs on shutdown?
I recently finished a new build and clean installed vista premium. Mind you the kids do fool around with this computer. Now it has begun to hang on shutdown. What's the procedure for trouble shooting this?

e6750
Vista Home Premium 32bit
2GB Corsair XMS 6400
Asus P5B-E
Xfinity power supply 600W
Asus 8800GT
old generic dvd drive
floppy (why? Habit I guess)

Hello.

Boot to safe mode, & test.
If the problem does not occur in safe mode, perform clean boot troubleshooting.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;310353
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 << for Vista, but applies equally to XP, and better written.

See the bottom of the blue background section at
http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/Using_Windows_Vista.htm

In XP, you can set your computer to clear the pagefile.sys at shutdown, which will prolong your shutdown time. It takes an edit of the registry in XP. I don't know how to do it in Vista, or if it is possible, in Vista, but it is something to consider.

You might find something here.
