Will Windows Update install (SP1) through automatic updates?

Yes - unless it sees some of the drivers they know will cause it to fail. Then it should be available in a month or so

If your machine is set to Automatically Download and Install updates, then you will wake up one morning and your system will have updated it self to SP1.

Persoanlly, I like to see what is going on, but if you are happy with those settings, then proceed.

Well that is interesting. I had been wondering about this sort of thing as my wife's Dell pc with Vista Home Premium has updated automatically to SP1 and all runs well, whereas my Dell Notebook also with Vista Home Premium and the same automatic update setting shows Windows is up to date, but no SP1. However, the Notebook did install 8 updates March 12th.
So I guess what you are saying is there is something different between the PC and Notebook drivers that Update is waiting on before SP1 is installed...............

I did, in fact, take the plunge and installed Service Pack 1 when it showed up on Automatic Update. It took around an hour to complete the installation, with no problems so far.

Informative. In my case must be the drivers as other causes don't apply.. This notebook is only 11 months old. Could be the Symantec drivers which it appears Symantec is working on. The Dell Driver page shows a couple of urgent driver updates and numerous recommended and optional.
However, you imply that if SP1 sees some drivers it knows will fail, then it will not install, but, it will be available in a month or so..............is that so Windows update can sort out the drivers or is that to give the companies time to fix the driver problem. Guess what I am saying is, if it is a driver problem, can I just wait and eventually automatic updates will install SP1?

I did a windows update and got the Vista SP1. I tried installing it three times and it went through 3 stages of installation each time but it did not install. It showed error 80041026. Before the third installation I uninstalled my Comodo Firewall but it still did not install.

I checked the Microsoft site for the error code 80041026 but there was none. Can someone shed some light on this please? Thanks.

I've never used the modem or the LAN port on my HP laptop so I've never installed the optional driver updates for them since I would have no way to test them w/o crawling under my desk and fishing for cables. I wonder if not having the latest drivers has impacted whether or not I get the SP1 update as it's set for instamatic install. No big deal if it doesn't happen though.

Seems to be an error related only to the SP1 update

Windows Update installed 11 updates successfully today on my year old Dell Notebook, but still no sign of Vista SP1. I have Update set to automatically download. All runs very well on my system and has pretty well from day one. Guess SP1 will just show up one day. My wife's year old PC has had SP1 now for about 3 weeks.

Suspicious it is my Sigma Tel Sound drivers holding things up..........

Anyone else still not have SP1 installed yet?

That means you have one of the drivers that SP1 would kill and it won't apply till Microsoft have fixed those issues. They did say this could take a "month or more" at the time of SP1, and it hasn't been that long yet
