It's made no noticable difference... other than it takes a bit longer to start up.

Yup... but doesn't mean everyone gets it at the same time. There are quite a few different drivers MS had to fix

Most of the delays are due to incompatible drivers. The downlaod package recognizes this and will not deliver until issue(s) are resolved. I know that Dell had an issue with Sigma Tel audio drivers.

Makes sense then as I have a Dell Notebook with Sigma Tell audio drivers.
Thanx.

I had a similar problem with my conexant sound card driver on my HP pavillion laptop (about five months old). Searching for updates on the internet or HP site did not help, but when I asked it to search for updates on my computer, it found the latest version. Bizzare! I presume one of Windows updates probably also put the updated driver somewhere, without installing it. Anyway, the next thing I know, Windows offers me SP1 update, which I installed without any problems, and it took less than an hour.

Maybe try Driver Detective or something similar to check that you have the latest drivers for your system

The Microsoft have stopped the Service Pack 1 download for the time being, since it has some critical issues before this, such as the dvd drive not detected, and also some usb port does not work. Wait until the new version of the Service Pack 1 to be released again

FWIW: I went ahead and elected to install SP1 when it showed up on Automatic Updates. It failed with error code 80041026. I tried three times. However, my wife's was successful the very first time.

I think the cause was that I have Ultimate with all language packs installed. My wife didn't install any. I went ahead and downloaded the full ML install package and installed it manually. It installed perfectly, however, it took over 3 hours, not just one.

So far, no problems, and I'm still waiting to see my very first BSOD (or green screen, or red screen). I've yet to crash once, and I have had it since Feb of '07.

Strange for me because as hard as I am on PCs, I can get XP to crash at least 3 times a day.
