CD Drive Not Working!
I've been having some strange problems with my cd drive recently.
  • It started abruptly
  • I do not know how it started
  • When inputting a CD, no autoplay begins
  • The CD does begin spinning
  • When opening the drive via My Computer, it pops the tray open and says "Please insert a CD into drive E:"
  • Right-clicking on the drive and clicking "eject" successfully opens the correct tray (only tray)
  • ***When running an ISO from software such as POWERISO, the SAME ERROR happens
  • Running on Vista w/ SP1, error began before update.

Any ideas?

All of those programs, like PowerIso, burners, and virtual drives, load their drivers on boot whether they are running or not. Sometimes, the drivers can conflict, or a setting in one of the programs will affect all the others.

Check your settings to be sure that "Ignore Media Type", Book-type, or some other setting is not interfering with the drive's operation.

Check the drive with Filter Driver Load Order to see what filter drivers are loaded along with the normal CD-ROM drivers. If you no longer need them, uninstall the app they belong to, or incapacitate all the filter drivers with the usual CD-Gone fix:

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN.

2. Enter REGEDIT and press Enter.

3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:
"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"
Click on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Or you can download this reg file to do the same thing.

Also try removing the device from Device Manager and rebooting so it will be reinstalled.

Hey,
I've been surfing for more than 2 hours reading and trying all the options available on the net to solve the exact same problem mentionned above.
The werid thing is that every people says that they can read only CdRom and not DVD but my problem is the opposite , my drive only read DVD with no problems but no CDRoms at all, no games, no Application, no music ,even Microsoft Office . When I put a CD in i see the light and hearing the cd reading but nothing happens and when i click it says ''Please insert a CD into drive E:''
Ive tried to Delete Filters in registery (I only had LowerFilters)
Ive tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers
Ive downloaded 3 differents updates for CDRoms (one from HP, one from LightScribe, and one on Windows i think) nothing more
So i hope someone will be able to help me solve the problem
btw this is my mom's computer i dont really know what she did but she says she made an update but dont know which one but shes pretty sure it was from HP
Thank You in advance
