blank screen with pointer
This computer goes through the motions of booting up, then stops on a blank screen with the mouse pointer dead center in the screen. The mouse moves around fine and pressing shift 5 times causes the Stickey Keys window to pop up. Caps lock key works but the computer will do nothing else. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does not work. Nothing else works. It does this weather I boot it in Safe Mode or normal boot. This is my niece's computer and she was trying to update some driver when this started. Is there a way to do a system restore if I can not get Vista to boot?

Another wrinkle...after a few minutes, the screen saver starts like normal.

help help help! She needs this computer to do her homework!

Boot from the Vista DVD and run Startup Repair. It may take more than one try.
