Task Manager with SP1 Before I installed SP1, I had problems connecting to internet, like it would just become very slow to the point that I had to restart. After doing the SP1 installation, the problem went away for a while and is now back in a different way.
For example, If I close IE and all other applications, there is a very good chance that those programs are still running in the background and when I try to close them using task manager, I get the "unable to terminate process" error message and that process continues to "run."
As far as I know Vista (and XP SP2) have a limit on the number of open connections, which is 10, so you can have a maximum of 10 open connections at a time. From what I've noticed if I have too many of those "un-closable" applications, the internet connections becomes slow and pretty much dies because that limit has been reached. Now, XP and Vista (without SP1), can be patched to allow more active connections, but Vista SP1 has problems with that patch.
Anyway, right now the main issue is that some processes cannot be terminated, processes like IE, Media Player, or some custom applications that I have written in the past. BTW, I have administration rights, so I'm not getting those errors on user acounts.
Are there any work arounds or hot fixes for this problem? |
