Have you tried Compatibility Mode? Right-click the shortcut to your program, choose Properties, Compatibility tab. Choose to run it "as if" it were XPSP2 (or try others, too, like Win98 or Win2000). There are also other compatibility options there to try if you still have problems, like Desktop Compositing and turning off theming for that program.

If that doesn't work, try re-installing the program only set the compatibility options of the setup program before you run it. Then try different settings after installation.

If all else fails and you still need XP, you can install XP inside Vista and run both at the same time with VirtualBox, Virtual PC, or others.

Compatibility mode on a Mac?

You can't get Windows XP from Windows Vista. Two different operating systems. You can install Windows XP if you have an actual full installation of it using Parallels or Boot Camp.

Yes, you can add Windows XP to your Mac with the help of either Boot Camp or Parallels. Remember to secure your XP installation as you would on a standalone machine.

There are other solutions as well for adding XP to a Mac, but these two seem to be the most tried and true.

Why would Compatibility Mode be any less available on a Mac? Vista is Vista, no matter where it is installed.
