Windows Admin Problem
Hi guys, I just bought a used computer yesterday. It has the windows vista. The problem is i dont have the admin password and the only hint is #. I tried resetting the password but it says i need a cd? Does that mean I need to go buy Windows Vista? Or can i borrow this cd off a friend who has purchased windows vista? (p.s. the reason i dont have the password is because i bought it an auction. It is not stollen.) thanks for any help

When you booted the computer, you should have an admin account that was created. What happened to that account?

The Vista Administrator account is disabled by default and hidden. It shouldn't be the only account you log in with.

Exactly. What happened to the normal account you would log in with?

Unfortunately, this is a very common occurrence with used computers, and this site doesn't allow for helping people to resolve it. The only advice we can offer is to completely reinstall Windows. If this is a name-brand computer, you might be able to get restore disks from the manufacturer. There may also be a restore partition on the drive. Is the Windows Vista product key on a sticker on the computer?

Is there a partition with a restore folder on the hard drive? If so you may be able to reformat the drive and then use the partition to reinstall Vista. You will need the product key.
