Question auto priorities on program startup?
i want to make some of my programs start on high priority. I maually set this in task manager, however I must do this every time I open the program. I would like to know how, and if there is a way that you can make program's auto start on a priority you choose.

There are a number of ways of doing this. A program called "Priority Shortcut Builder" will do it almost automatically for you.

You can change the shortcuts to start the target program in desired priority. Example:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "Hard Drive Indicator" /low "C:\Program Files\HDI\hdi.exe"

But the way I finally settled on was using "Process Tamer". Of all the process control programs I tried, this seemed the best and most stable. It reigns in any precess that uses too much CPU by lowering its priority (apps can be set to "Ignore" so it won't affect them). And you can set a permanent priority for every program so Process Tamer will change to that priority at each start. Once you get used to it, I think you'll like it.

You can also change priority of each app, each time it starts with the context menu created by "Power Menu".

i'm not really following you on the shortcut way. if I put for example /low before the pathway it tells me that its not a valid target

You need the whole line, of course, and not just the "low". And the "Start In" box below may need to be changed to system32 or emptied.

If you give me an example of one of your targets, I'll show you what to put in the target box.

It worked? That's good. But I'd still highly recommend Process Tamer. It makes controlling priorities from a tray icon very easy.

By the way, the priorities are:

low
belownormal
normal
abovenormal
realtime (Be very careful with this one. Probably a good idea to never use it.)

If you want programs that start on boot to start with your assigned priorities, you either need to put the altered shortcut in the Startup folder, or you need to edit their startup entries in the registry. They can be edited and controlled very easily with:

Startup Control Panel or Startup Control Panel (Exe version for Vista)
