Unhappy Solved: Epson R200 and vista
I recently bought a new pc that runs vista; my epson R200 no longer works with it - well, it worked once or twice and now it doesn't at all and I can't even check the ink levels. Is there an easy way around this or do I need to buy a new printer?

Thanks.

Epson provided a Vista driver? And maybe also modified ink level checking utility?

Have you checked back to see if they have updated the driver (maybe others also had problems)?

Have you contacted Epson about the problem?

I have contacted Epson, but I'm not really sure what you mean about the driver; please could you explain?

Vista Home Premium recognized my Epson R200 Photo (and a separate scanner) when I first installed Vista. I did however go to the Epson website later and downloaded updated drivers for the printer and my Epson scanner. The printer should work with Vista just using the drivers built in to Vista. Updated drivers provide additional support features. I'm sure you are aware that when installing many/most printers and scanners that the USB cable should not be plugged into the printer itself until the driver installation says to make the connection. You can plug the cable into the computer just leave the printer connection until notified. Notice that there is always the possibility that the printer is indeed defective, but that is a rarity.

What I meant about the driver is what alwrmc already explained. You need a Vista driver, and if you are having problems you want to get the most recent driver because it may include a fix for your problem. Same for any additional software associated with the printer.
