Solved: vista business: system32 errors, host errors, cannot system restore, etc. Please help
I am new, so I may have not posted this in the correct category and I may not be as specific/descriptive as I should, but here goes:

From first recieving my lenovo t61 , after logging in an error pops up:
"Error in C:\Windows\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCFtime.dll
Missing Entry: Run DLLEntry"

Also, upon attempting to run System Restore, it rebooted and told me it did not complete succesfully:
"An unspecified error occured during system restore."
When I went into info it had no info regarding that error and the help site online didn't help much either. I tried different restore points, I tried the recommended restore point, and I tried creating a new restore point, but it still gives the same "unspecified error" message.

I had installed a Lenovo printer, driver and took my PC in for service (due to the error msg). The guy installed cjr730EN.exe to fix the problem, which went away for awhile, but has reappeared approx. 2 months later.

The guy didn't seem to concerned that restore didn't work, but I am. Any suggestions as to the problem....
I am considering reinstalling vista and wiping everything... do not want to.

Also, I have MSOffice 2003 which did not fully install. Word and Excel kind of worked (I haven't bothered with the others) but often the keyboard goes screwy (? becomes a weird E symbol, etc.) and I tried to uninstall it but it says these things:
"Error 1913. Setup cannot update file
C:\Windows\System32\mapisvc.inf
Verify that file exists & you have sufficient permissions to update it."
(I'm not sure what this means or why it popped up when I was trying to UNINSTALL MSO)
and about 30 s later:
"Fatal error during installation"
The program never did get uninstalled.

I have included some other info, it may or may not be relevant to the above:

Sidenote:
I use AVG and Spybot S&D, and just recently AVG detected Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe as "change". It doesn't really give any other info, and just before that I had put a trojan in the virus vault (which was most likely d/l from p2p BOO).
I had a problem with facebook and am really worried about a keylogger whatnot...
Nothing has been detected in AVG except Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.exe which i located and (somehow) deleted and then emptied the recycle bin, but has alas reappeared as "change" in avg.

THUS, due to this I (like an idiot) installed a stupid registry cleaner (ToniArts) and now am having Spybot S&D tell me it detected an important registry change "C\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe" -scheduler
I have no idea what this means and I'm afraid I've trashed my registry, which I never should have touched considering my skill level. Is there a way to undo this, even though I've already uninstalled the cleaner app?

I mentioned these things because I don't know what problem stems from where, i could really use some help or even direction if possible. Thanks!!!

ALSO (forgot to mention)
I constantly get a message from Windows Defender telling me Windows has blocked some startup programs, but when I click where it says "Click here to view a list of blocked startup programs" it just takes me to "Programs and Features" and shows me the list of my programs. i have removed anything i KNOW is unnecessary and not anything what I didn't know what it was (haha duh). I have also checked many of the processes in task manager and none seem to be out of place....

Hi Dish,

Thanks for posting here.

From your post, my understanding on this issue is: you get the following
error message about RUNDLL:
======================
Error in C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCFtime.dll
Missing entry: RunDLLEntry
======================
If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.

LXCFtime.dll is not a DLL file of Microsoft. This is DLL file of a spyware.
Based on my researching, this DLL file belongs to an application called
HijackThis.

Let us try the following steps about clean boot to solve this issue:

Clean Boot.
-----------------
a. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box, and then click OK.
b. In the Startup tab, click the "Disable All" button.
c. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox,
and then click the "Disable All" button.
d. Click OK and restart your computer.

Also, I suggest you remove this software from your computer to solve this
issue.

I hope the above information helps.

Have a nice day.

Best Regards,

L0gic

LXCFtime.dll is a printer driver.

Remove all printer software and reinstall the printer. Note that most usb devices require driver installation prior to plugging the printer into the computer.
===============================
If all goes well, post back here and we can look at the System Restore issue.

See, I have gone through that with the tech guy I took it to. We reinstalled the driver and it was fine for awhile, then the error came back. I don't know if it was the SAME error as from FIRST PURCHASING the computer, but similar nonetheless. There was a dll error BEFORE I installed the printer.... it may not be the same as what is popping up now. Regardless, this is not my major issue.
god knows :P

Major issue is not being able to system restore. It goes through the motions but an unspecified error occurs. That and now a registry error, windows blocking startup programs, and msoffice 2003.

This suggests there are other issues. Have you run up to date virus and spyware scans?

Does System Restore work out of Safe Mode?

You could have a corrupt restore point which is causing SR to fail; if you disable then re-enable SR that will remove all current restore points and start anew. If SR still doesn't work, a repair install may be in order.

I have AVG and Defender and Spybot all up to date and working fine.
As it says in the first post, if you read it, I have tried different restore points, creating a new restore point, etc. SYSTEM RESTORE WILL NOT WORK. At all, under any circumstance.
Thank you for your help anyway.

I asked if you have tried System Restore out of Safe Mode. If it works, that would suggest that a given program is interfering with SR.

Even though you have AVG, Defender and Spybot, this is no guarantee that you are malware free.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to reinstall SR in Vista, other than running a complete repair install. Run a chkdsk /f to see if there is a problem on the hard drive.

===============
1. Open the command prompt with administrative privileges by typing cmd in the search box in the Start Menu and right-click cmd.exe in the search results and then select Run as Administrator.
2. Type chkdsk /f That's a space between k and / then hit the Enter key and follow the prompts to run it.
