AVG 8.0 stopped my windows mail
I had the 7.5 AVG and upgraded to the 8.0 and now getting:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Hey', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: '1xxxxx', Protocol: SMTP, Port: xxxx, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
and:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'xxxxxx', Protocol: POP3, Port: xxxx, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I am trying to get into the firewall and also contacted AVG to figure out what needs to be changed from the 7.5 Boy, I went round and round getting this AVG, and Gmail working and I may go back to 7.5 unless someone can help.

Personally, and I was a reseller for Avg, I would find another antivirus for Vista as I have had way too many problems with Avg malfunctioning in Vista. If you want free Avira is fine but Nod 32 is the best as usual (www.eset.com).

Thanks for the reply Rich. I have free 7.5 AVG on my old computer, but bought this for one year, ending in August. But the new 8.0 is a little more complicated then the 7.5 and even where you have to go into the servers, it has changed slightly. I used the old numbers that worked to get gmail to wind up in my windows mail since last Aug. but using the same tech. for this resulted in error notices. They haven't contacted me yet and since they haven't, I have uninstalled 8.0 and went back to 7.5 with success. You have to uninstall 7.5 first to use 8.0 so now i'm getting all those firewall notices that i had the first time. What a pain so far. I have 8.0 saved and might try again in the future. I may download this Nod32 for the future if I have any more problems, thanks.

Well see how it goes, I had so many issues on client pc's with 7.5 in Vista I just gave up and ended my resale relationship is all' You know with Nod32 and Superantispyware running in the background, you are the best protected and I have had no issues at all.
