Internet Dies Often
hi, I have been having this issue for a couple of months now and I finally decided to seek help...

first off here is my system:
Dell Inspiron 1720
windows vista
intel centrino duo core @ 2.00ghz
2gigs ram
160gb hd
nvidia geforce 8400m gs

ok here is the problem...for a couple of months now my internet has been dieing out on me...the internet connection seems to be working (it shows the blue globe)...the thing is that all my applications associated with the internet stops working; internet explorer, mozilla, aim, opera, etc...

the only way to fix this is restarting my computer...i also tried taking out the dsl cord and plugging it back it and it still doesn't work...i also disabled and re-enabled the network, etc...

when the internet dies out i ping and it works...

i don't remember installing any recent programs also...i do remember doing a couple of registry cleanups and forgot to make backups...the problem also occurs when I use my internet back @ home...because currently I am living in an apartment and the problem still occurs..

not sure if this will help, but i get this everytime i start opera

i can't seem to find the problem as i did many things to fix it..

also i don't want to reinstall my operating system (this is my last resort)...

please help...

thanks

How are you connecting to the internet. Mode, router?

Absolutely if you have backups restore them.
Ok as for Registry Mechanic or any other registry cleaners, there is no reason to clean your registry. It doesn't get dirty. The only thing they can do is hose your system, that they do well. There is almost nothing in a registry that would have duplicate entries or leftover entries causing the least bit of trouble but a program seeking them out for removal, now there is a "clear and present danger"!

OK on the subject of registry cleaners. Im not an expert of Registry mechanic but i have used registry cleaners for a long time and although they don't do much for performance on systems they can combat system errors extremely well in some cases, & as far for the registry not getting dirty.

This is almost the pure reason registry cleaners are out there, other than to sort out registry errors, or system errors caused by registry files, they are there to clean out all the unused dll files and reg keys that were not deleted during program uninstalls etc. Hell theres alot of programs out there that leave behind thier folders in the program files directory nevermind what they leave behind in the registry.

But hey enough of the small rant.
Back to your problem. This could well be the cause of some Malware in your system.
I advise posting a HiJackThis log on here and seeking advice on it
aswell as possibly downloading a copy of spybot search and destroy or something very similiar like superantispyware and run a full system scan for problematic software on your machine.

Actually no, the main reason for registry cleaners is for the maker to make money selling them. That may in fact be the only solid reason .

CCleaner (free) has been recommended by some of the more astute members on TSG and it it does appear to produce the goods when it comes to cleaning, uminstalling etc.

I am also of the same view that registry cleaners are pretty useless but I get enormous satisfaction in seeing all those "little things" it finds and zaps!

Re your problem, I had a similar situation some time back with constant disconnects from ther Internet (cable) and after unplugging every cable I could find, and pressing the factory reset on anyything that looked like a modem or router, it all came back to life and has not (as yet) gone bad on me!
