When I start up windows, it randomly shuts down and goes to the bsod. Here is some of the error report:

I have the latest version of bios for my mobo.

System specs:

system memory: 3072 mb
720gb hard drive
Intel core 2 quad processor at 2.4 ghz

Model: m9150f HP Pavilion Elite

The blue screen of death seems to happen at random times, although it just started happening.

The only thing i have changed recently is installed java development kit, but that has already been uninstalled as i thought that was the problem. Even with the uninstall, I still get the bsod.

EDIT: I also have an Nvidia 8800GT which runs really hot, but i have a fan blowing on it to cool it.

Maybe its the card that is faulty?

I can run a debugging utility on the dump files if you do this:

1 > create a new folder on the desktop and call it "dumpcheck" or whatever you like
2 > navigate to %systemroot%\minidump and copy the last few minidump files to that folder.%systemroot% is normally c:\windows. They are numbered by date. You can paste that address in address bar to get there.
3 > close the folder and right click on it and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4 > use the "manage attachments" in the "advanced" reply window to upload that zip file here as an attachment.

This might point us to a non-system driver causing the error, if one exists for it.

Thanks a lot for your support and response, but I do believe I fixed the problem.

I guess Vista users need to be more careful when installing a java update, or uninstalling, as there was some registry entries still left behind, and not removed by the uninstaller.

I'm skeptical, but if you need to reopen it just let me know.

Outside firewalls and security software are the most common source of BSODs in Vista.

You do make a good point, but my set up is the exact same down to software of another rig at my house, and that hasnt had any problems. Ill keep looking into the problem, or what it could be, but With my limited knowledge, my motto remains: "If it isnt broke, dont fix it"

But yes, if more problems do arise, I will be sure you let you know.

Oh and my outside firewall is based off a lynksis router, and my anti virus is avast! with spybot SD for spyware.

Well I looked at just the last 4; and while the "probably caused by" lines in the debugger all point to

Probably caused by : ntkrpamp.exe ( nt!CmpFindValueByNameFromCache+bf ) ... which is an NT Memory Management system driver ...
