hey does anyone know how to keep the NIC enabled when the computer goes to standby? i have looked in control panel and network config and all and can't find a way to do it?

The network adapter probably is enabled, to a certain degree, while the computer is in standby if the NIC supports "wake on LAN".

Obviously you can't access anything on the computer via the network connection until the computer actually comes out of standby.
