Solved: Dvd Drive will not install Missing Roxio Cdr4.sys?
When i try and install it it says its missing this file, why would it try and install a drive with a roxio file anyway? cant find file to replace it, and it seems any problems of this haven't surfaced to much online... pic attached to see error.

Well, it looks like it is partially uninstalled, so you have a real mess now.

If you want to install the drive, run Roxizap.

Then use this reg file to remove the drivers from the registry:

CDGone Variant

But if you do that, Roxio will not work. What a piece of junk!

Try Roxizap. (New link. Roxio keeps moving it and taking down links from sites.)

Try the CDGone Variant registry fix again.

So in a weird turn of events my drive installed itself this morning, i booted it up and it said the same thing, "cant find drivers". so i went in and did the dishes(shutty!) and came back and it was installed!. funny thing is i installed this drive because my current new drive was not working. it would sit at 0.0% and i thought it had to been the burner went out so i was going to replace it and use my old one till i got the new one. but since the old one installed my new one is working now...

Hi there, I just registered to say thankyou both a great deal. I had exactly the same problem. My system tried to install vista SP1 and failed (probably something to do with the fact the SP1 was installed on my computer from the start!!!) Anyway it messed up the driver for my DVD drive and I got the same error message about roxio Cdr4 being missing. I went through the steps you outlined and EXACTLY the same thing happened, it said that it couldn't find the drivers but when I tried using my DVD drive found it to be in working order. How strange!! Do either of you have a clue as to why it would give an incorrect message like that? I am thinking of dual booting XP as I have found VISTA a whole heap of aggravation (expecially driver related issues) thus far.
