Question Too much immovable disk space
When I defragmented C: drive with PerfectDisk 2008 (this isn't relevant but I think the Office 2007 GUI is kinda crap) there was a bunch of immovable disk space on the drive that wasn't there the last time I defragged my HD (anout 6 weeks ago). Another strange thing is that the black chunks are scattered, which means that it can't be an inconveniently placed pagefile because that has zero fragments. See the attached pictures; one of the pics is a list of blocked items

---

Oh and how do you put thumbnails instead of whole pictures into the post?

Those are probably System Volume Information files. That's really a pretty typical picture. Removing the restore points (except one) before defragging will help. Offline defragging when Windows isn't running will help some more.

Are you using build 52, 2008?

Thumbnails come from attaching the file.

OK. They don't seem to know exactly how to handle the volume information folders. Build 52 is the 3rd or 4th attempt to come up with an acceptable method.

Run Disk Cleanup. On the second tab, there is the option to remove shadow copies and restore points. That will make your defrag quite a bit more efficient (along with a boot defrag).

No need to get rid of all of it. You need at least one restore point. PD does a good job.
