Solved: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Critical Errors
Hello,
Today I update my dad's laptop with vista service pack 1, and after logging on, the message, "a critical error has occurred and you computer will restart in one minute..." I turned the computer off and tried for a cold start, but again I got the same error message. During one of the reboots, a runtime error for roxio 10 appeared, but it only happened once out of about 12 restarts. However, a last week I updated my laptop with service pack 1 and had no problems. I was wondering the reason for this inconsistency, and should I try and reinstall sp1 again. When I updated my vista to service pack 1, my windows update did if for me, but when I run windows update for my father's computer, service pack 1 doesn't show up. I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tap F8 continuously after pressing power button and until you enter safe mode?
If you can, go into Control Panel, Programs & Features and you can uninstall SP1.

Yes, I was successful in uninstalling service pack 1 on my father's computer by using the restore point, but I'm still unsure as to why mine worked and his did not. I mentioned it earlier that I downloaded sp1 through windows update and that when I previously ran windows update on my dad's computer sp1 didn't appear, and I don't know why. We both have Home Premium, so I don't know what the matter is.

I believe Microsoft took it off Windows Update temporarily as they are working on some incompatibility issues.

My wife's Dell desktop and my Dell notebook both run Vista Home Premium. Her's updated automatically to SP1 many weeks ago and I am still waiting on SP1. Apparently it is driver issues and problems (one of them being sound related) that Microsoft is working on.

Thanks for that info Rich-M. I've been blaming Symantec for not updating their drivers...

SP3 for XP was removed but is back now.

As for Vista SP1 it was NOT removed, just delayed in being posted at Windows Updated, it will not appear on ones Windows Update until the OEM drivers are correct. Depending on the OEM will determine if and when one will get SP1.

One needs to check with the machine OEM and see what updates they have for the model that one has.
