Wits end: Games, Vista, 8800GT I have a lovely 1 and a half year old Mac Pro running Windows Vista Business 64 and recently changed it's Apple-standard Radeonx1900 XT for a Gigabyte Geforce 8800GT as the radeon has started having a few problems with artifacting and other graphical gflitches, it seemd the old thing had just decided to give up.
Now I've swapped in this new 8800GT however I am one of those people that is plagued by the Vista TDR error; I like to play the odd game or two and when I do it is inevitable that a) the game will freeze, the screen will go blakc and then the game will resume normally or b) the screen will turn black and not recover, forcing a hard reset by me to get a functional computer back again.
I've looked up and down the internet, found hundreds of people with similar or exactly the same errors and tried their suggested solutions (changing drivers, reinstall drivers, using 3rd party drivers etc) but none of these has fixed or even changed the frequency of the problem.
It seems there is just no fix, that I will just not be able to play games with my computer until Nvidia can actually fix the problem they are having with Vista.
Is that's what I'm stuck at? Just not playing any games? |
