Part II on how to remove "windows.old" folder
Once again I see more "solutions" that attempt to fix this problem. They apparently work for some folks. I have a "windows.old" folder that simply will not go away. I have tried all the fixes/solutions that I have run across thus far and none of them have removed the folder and its changing files. The folder remains and periodically when I open it I find that some of the subdirectories and files have changed. Very strange!
I have taken ownership, I have altered the folder/files properties, I have tried any number of external unlockers/ownership changes etc. I have tried deleting it from command prompt. Nothing touches it. When I attempt to delete it I receive these message windows:
________________________________________
Delete Folder
Are you sure you want to move this folder to the recycle bin:
Yes No
.....clicking on Yes brings up this next message window:

________________________________________
Item not found
Could not find this item. This is no longer located in C:\. Verify the items location and try again. Windows.old Date created 5/28/2007 7.00PM
Try again Cancel
.....clicking on Try again does nothing at all and I must click on cancel to escape.

If the folder can not be found on my C: drive (where it shows up in Windows Explorer or in DOS command line), then where is it? None of the solutions and none of the external software utilities have touched it so far. I can remove some of the folders/files inside the Windows.old folder by using the take ownership fixes but the parent folder remains. Also how does new folders/files get stuck inside now and then? Currently the directory structure is as follows:

windows.old
HP Administrator
Application Data
SecuROM
User Data

Still looking for answer??

I had a similar problem with a folder, what I did was open the folder, delete it's contents, then delete the empty folder. Give that a try.

For K7M: Tried that several times, did not work. Tried deleting from DOS (command line) and that did not work. I downloaded several uninstaller utilities and none of them removed it either. However, about three weeks ago I noticed that the folder and its contents were no longer on my computer. I have no idea where it went or how it was removed. None of the programs indicated that they had removed it. I'm glad it's gone, but at a complete loss as to how!!
For agpilotjim: I wish I could provide an answer/solution but the disappearance is a mystery to me.

cannot delete folder (detailed)
cheers for promp reply.

put a music video disc (copied version. plays no problems) into disk drive. went to 'my computer' and 'copy' and 'paste' to a folder 'music video' i created on my portable hard drive

the music video is 3.5gb. the folder 'music video' i pasted to was 35gb yesterday and now 55gb. contains 26 files and folders. file names are weird characters and letters.

i cannot open or delete any individual files or folders in the 'music video' folder. i cannot delete 'music video' folder itself.

the message 'could not find this item' 'this is no longer located in F:\. verify the items location and try again'

i did a search for the folder and it appears to be located exactly where i put it.

any ideas?
