Question To protect folders from unauthorised alteration
G'day folks, greetings from downunder!

I have a Toshiba Satellite LapTop P105-S6197 with Vista Home Premium. I have many music mp3 files and also many photos in my laptop (thousands of each, so they are quite precious). I want to be able to stop myself and others from makiing accidental and unauthorised changes to the folders containing the music and the photos. However, I still want others, and myself to be able to play and view those files.

For instance...when I wish to play several CD albums, I "Ctrl" and left click on several of the CD folders and then click on "play all" - it is very easy to "mis-click" and to "flick" a folder into another. Does that make sense? I know what I want to say, but it's difficult putting it into words.

I have used the Windows "read only" function, but it's quite useless and allows changes to occur. I wish to, at times, make changes to the folders that I want to, but I want to be able to stop acidental changes. I know that there is software available to lock folders, but they all hide them as well, which is what I don't want - so part of that software suits my needs but that part doesn't.

Hope I've made enough sense for someone to be able to offer me assistance and advice.

Thanks

Right, well I figure that my question was too messy, so I've thought more on it and will try this instead!

I want to make my music and photo files STRICTLY read only! Just like in the folder options in XP & Vista, but for real "read only"! but to still be able to play and view the files No alterations etc etc unless I remove the "read only" attribute.

Hope this is clearer!

Thanks,

Eddie
