ending a process that refuses to end
ok, i use nod32 for my virus scanner but i keep getting this virus that i can't seem to get rid of, so i downloaded avg 8.0 to see if it could. I want to keep avg to scan my computer sometimes but i don't want any resident shields running all the time or nothing. I disabled the resident shield in AVG options, and even stopped the service in the windows services.msc window, and restarted, but in task manager avgrsx.exe is still running, and when i try to end it, it just won't quit. how can i force a process to quit if it refuses to? anyone know?

It may be still running in the startup sequence.
Type Msconfig in the start, select the "Startup" tab.
Sroll down and see if you have any AVG associated functions running. If you have, untick them and restart to see if your problem has gone.

You say you "stopped" the service. And presumably you disabled it also?

Bump for someone who has had the same problem. I am actually running AVG but don't have that program in my task manager.

Look in the registry under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run. You may also have to look under HKCU under the same folder.
