Strange happenings with a helping of scary blue screen
Hi all i have recently been having some problems where by programmes (like mozilla) as well as games and windows sidebar 'stop responding' and basically stop working. Very annoying! In fear of a virus or something (dont know if that would have the same effect) i used system restore and also checked my memory (with vista memory checker) as i had recently installed 2G of ram. With no problems there im really confused at the minute as to what is causing this to happen. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Id say with what I said in the other post about the blue screen. It's probably the game that was downloaded. I recently downloaded 9dragons and wasnt even playing it that long before it froze up and I got a blue screen. Once I did remove the game though the blue screens have stopped. So chances are its some type of program that isnt for vista yet. So If I was you i'd start with the game, remove that and not take anything else off. If the blue screen still happens finds some other things that you downloaded and remove that hopfully you will come across the problem. I'm still trying to search to figure out how it's happening.

Well it appears for very little time before my computer just turns off, would a screen shot work and then paste it to a word document on turning my computer back on?
I don't have downloaded games and sadly it has happend a few times for my brother when all he is doing is using firefox with a couple of tabs open while on msn at the same time, i thought maybe i had put my new RAM in incorrectly...

I will try those scans, thanks

That was my next thought. You know ram needs to be matched by model to a motherboard. I only ever recommend www.crucial,kingston orcorsair.com because those sites have configurators to tell you exactly what ram is compatibole with their boards and that is all I buy then. You can buy the model anywhere, but it must be the one recommended by the configuartor. That said. The best way to tell is download and run memtest86 with each stick in alone. bear in mind you need to run 4 complete tests and each test has 8 trials within it so each one can take 3-4 hours. Any errors at all mean the ram is failed or at least incompatible. BTW the Windows ram test for Vista is real basic and is really only a guide.
