Post Virtual PC 2007 on Vista, Slow Virtual PCs
I have Vista Business with SP1 installed on my T61 Laptop (see my computer Specs in the little computer icon next to my name)

I have 1 Virtual PC running with 512 MB RAM allocated to it. this VM is running Microsoft Server 2003 R2. the problem is that its very choppy and slow. I had Virtual PC 2007 installed on this same system, with out the service pack 1 on the host OS and it ran fine.
In both cases the Virtual PC tools were installed

Is this an issue with Vista Service Pack 1, or is there some setting in the VM that i need to set?

I believe there is only 1 GB RAM on the T61. So if you allocate half your memory to the VM (not counting what is currently being used by the host OS) I'm not surprised it choppy and slow.

What are you using the VM Server for? If it's purely testing purposes you can drop that RAM to around 384Mb or possibly even 256Mb and not notice a hit for the virtual machine. At college we regularly used PCs with 2Gb RAM on an XP client with *4* virtual servers and that's using the bloat that is VMware before the systems were replaced. It was slow to fire the machines up but once running they were fine.

On another note you might want to try Virtual PC 2007 SP1, it's a new release and may clear up the sluggish responses.

yeah its just for testing, each machine has 256MB RAM going to 512 doesn't really make a difference, i can try again tho, and no i don't have Virtual PC 2007 SP1 on it, I'll do that tonight and post the results
