Windows - No Disk
Hello,

I have a Dell laptop with Vista Ultimate (32 bit) and have recently been getting the "Windows - No Disk" pop-up when booting to the desktop, if my flash card reader is attached via USB and there is no card in it. If I boot with the flash card reader attached and a card is in it then the boot is normal.

Download and install HijackThis. Run it and select "do a system scan and save the log file". Then copy/paste the contents of the log to a reply

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...ols/hijackthis

Some vendor's have startups which are supposed to assign letters to card readers -- these are not usually necessary and can be disabled to resolve the problem.

Try clearing the Quicktime recent cache following the instructions here >>

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93687

If no luck you probably need to do some "clean boot" troubleshooting to sort it out, as it is the only one of the "usual suspects" I can easily identify.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 << for Vista, but applies equally to XP, and better written.

Hello,

Quicktime already had it cleared. I also have already done some clean boot debug and when I disable all the following items from the startup, it boots with no message:

Adobe Acrobat 8.0 - reader_sl.exe
Alps Pointing - apoint.exe
Hotsync Monitor - hotsync.exe
HP digital imaging - hpqtra08.exe
Microsoft find fast - findfast.exe
Microsoft office - msoffice.exe
Windows OS - ehtray.exe
McAfee - runkey.exe
Spybot - teatimer.exe
Logitech - setpoint.exe

But, as soon as I try to bring up Acrobat Reader 8.0, the message pops up.

Uninstall Acrobat Reader (it's a hog, anyway), and go for Foxit Reader: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/
Smaller, does very same thing, and trouble-free.

Use Hijackthis to delete it -- it's an unnecessary startup.

I've seen it cause the problem before but I don't know why.

You shouldn't really need to uninstall Adobe -- but you may need to repeat this after updates.

Sorry, I lost the thread. What am I supposed to delete with HiJackThis and how do I do it?
