Red face adobe reader 8.12
Hi Guys

Using Vista as operating system.

I have just downloaded the latest version of adobe reader and now everytime i open a pdf file I get an "Invalid plug in adobe reader will close" error message.
I have uninstalled it and re-installed a few times and still no joy.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks

The version should be 8.1.2 NOT 8.12!

Do you have UAC turned OFF as Adobe products do NOT install properly if it is turned OFF?

take a deep breathe! This is what I found on Technet:
Exit Adobe Reader.
Right-click on the Adobe Reader Icon and choose Properties . From the Shortcut tab click on Find Target button. Double click on the Plug_ins folder, right click on the file Ai2Z_PdfAhoi.api and choose Delete , click Yes to delete this file.
Start Adobe Reader.
From the Adobe Reader tool bar select Edit > Preferences .
Under Categories choose General and uncheck Use only Certified Plug ins .
Under Categories choose Document and uncheck Show each document in its own window .
Under Categories choose Internet and uncheck Display PDF in browser .
Click Ok , then exit Adobe Reader and restart your computer.
While Adobe Reader is closed, right-click on the ZoomText Icon and choose Properties . From the Shortcut tab click on Find Target button. Double click on the Inst folder, right click on the file Ai2Z_PdfAhoi.api and choose Copy .
Navigate to C:\Program Files folder, double click on Adobe folder, double-click on Reader 8 folder, double-click on Reader folder, double-click on Plug_ins folder, press Ctrl V to paste Ai2Z_PdfAhoi.api file into this folder.
Start Adobe Reader.
Second choice is to download and use foxit (free) It is faster than Adobe.

Wink Still No Joy
Cheers for the help guys, really appreciated.

I uninstalled adobe then reinstalled it after turning UAC back on and encountered exactly the same problem.

I then tried davehc advice but there apeared to be no "Target Button" in the shortcut tab.

After uninstalling adobe I then installed Foxit and that now works fine.

Cheers again for your help guys.......But it is really still bugging me as to why adobe wont work, any more ideas would be welcome.

Many Thanks
