activation glitch in vista ultimate
hi every1, i have recently upgraded to windows vista ultimate sp1 v1.65.
after using windows for about an hour(maybe less), i get a dialog box with the message that ' your windows activation will expire in 0 hours, please save all your work and install any edition of win vista'. after this message, the system reboots after an hour.
but the prob is that i have a genuine vista ultimate disc and in the system area, under the windows activation side-heading, the status is: windows activated.
can any1 give some info on what this actually is and how to correct it?

If it's an OEM license that you bought that did not come new with your computer, then you probably cannot install it on more than one computer. Delete the license off one of the computers, and if it still doesn't work, try contacting Microsoft. If you do manage to get through to Microsoft, the problem will probably be resolved fairly quickly, but I'm not sure if they support OEM licenses, so you might have to call your computer manufacturer.

That's odd, Dell seems to not follow that rule. And if you buy an OEM license from Newegg and install it on one computer then format and put it on another, how are they going to know?

Because the activation is married to the hardware on the first machine. The second will not activate.

This thread is beginning to stray into dangerous territory and I see no reason to keep it alive.

You might read the EULA that comes with an OEM version of Windows. Just because "they don't know", that doesn't make it legal.
