Vista sees HDD like a file -- pic included
Ok, so i make backups of all my games on to my pc so i don't need to carry the disks with me (i lan it up often). When i bought two new Samsung F1 750gb harddrives i was copying data over to one of them and my PC crashed (other story) and then THIS happened!

Its kinda annoying and i think it's a Vista thing because Ubuntu sees the drive as how i named it.

I've tried renaming the disk, and no avail.

Please help!

Thanks in advance

I presume you're talking about the E: drive? Last time I came across this it was because the drive was carrying a virus, which executes each time you double click to enter the drive. Not a particularly dangerous virus, just annoying. Might be worth running a scan on it - sometimes the best way is to just dump the data from the drive onto another harddrive (whilst having an AV running) and then reformat the dud drive.

Yes i am talking about the E: drive. I know it's not a virus, so i did go ahead and copy the data and formatted it in vista. I'll see if it worked when i get home.

How do you know it isn't a virus, just out of interest?

Ok, it's working now. Formatting did the trick! How did i know it wasn't a virus? I had AVG scan every night, and it was a brand new harddrive. Plus i rarely get viruses because i know what i am doing on the interwebs.

I don't really rate AVG very high. Not all viruses come from the internet, there are numerous ways a virus could have hooked onto the hdd. We'll never know now though!

Glad it's fixed =)
